Pocking Children's Burial GroundsThe Holocaust Survivors & Friends Education Center launched a fund raising effort on behalf of the Pocking Children's Burial Grounds. In 1945, shortly after the liberation of the concentration camp inmates in Pocking, more than 100 newborn Jewish children were murdered by a midwife employed in the Displaced Persons camp.

The Center has joined Anna Rosmus, Germany's Nasty Girl, in her more than 18 years of work to insure that the grave of these innocent babies is properly maintained and a monument is erected in their memory.

Located behind the Memorial built by the survivors of the concentration camp at Pocking, these children rest in overgrown graves. A cornfield have been built on top of them. At the obelisk, built under the direction of Rabbi Meisels, the names of the victims were removed by Bavaria's government after the survivors left the area.

The community did respond after years of pressure by Rosmus, when the 50th anniversary commemoration she organized brought survivors and American soldiers together with Holocaust Survivors & Friends to demonstrate their outrage that the names of the victims had been removed. This demonstration, which was filmed by German Television was shown in a documentary film aired throughout Germany, resulted in change.

In 1997, Bavaria's government constructed plaques restoring the names of the victims to their rightful place at this simple obelisk memorial. It is hoped that the memorial will be completed and the babies will have their proper grave.
